Nischitartha or the Engagement ceremony is done very grandly before a few days or months of the marriage by exchanging the rings. This ceremony marks the closer step towards the commitment of marriage. The couples pledge each other to be together in all stages of life and perform responsibilities after they get married.
The ceremony starts with purohit performing Ganesha pooja, Maha Sankalpam, Punyaha vachanam, and Nischitartha is performed in front of friends and family, the priest writes the “Lagna Patrika” and reads it out. Then the couple can seek the blessings of all the elders in the family for a successful and long marriage.
When to Perform Nischitartha (Engagement Ceremony)?
The engagement ceremony is performed on an auspicious day based on the Nakshatras of bride and groom. Chandrashtamam is considered before fixing the time for the engagement. It can be conducted both in the mornings and also in the evenings.
